This was an enjoyable piece
to paint, as I love the concept. The sculpt of the Reliquae is really well designed and one on my favourite Warhammer miniatures.
From a distance it could pass off as a man on a horse.
I was asked to paint it in British crusading colours, I feel this really suits the Britonnian miniatures and has a
nice effect. I tried to get a rugged battle weathered look to all the miniatures adding mud and bloodstains to them all. It
was hard to get the white colours to look right so it took a lot of wet blending and layering to get the right effect.
I
particularly like the way the freehand of the 2 red lions turned out on the left side. I got the symbols from an old ladybird
book about coats of arms. All the metallics are shaded using a mixture of citadel and Vallejo metallic paints. I got a nice dark affect on the reds by starting with Citadels dark
flesh and blending Vallejo blood red into it.
The overall finished Bretonnian Grail Reliquae along with the six Battle Pilgrims makes an attractive unit on the table.
